Wahoo and First-Timer Young Anglers Having the Time of Their Lives
The Kona coast doesn’t slow down. The Pacific blue water sits just minutes off Honokōhau Harbor, and this week it delivered.
Two nice wahoo came over the rail on this trip. Known locally as ono, these fish are one of the most exciting targets in Hawaiian waters.
Fast, hard-fighting, and fantastic on the table.
Summer is a solid month for ono in Kona. They’re active, the blue water is close, and when conditions line up, they show up.
The bottom fishing produced well alongside the ono bite. A full spread of species hit the deck and were released keeping the action going throughout the trip.
Bottom fishing is one of those styles that works for first-time young anglers. Steady rod action, fish coming up throughout the trip, and no slow spells.
The kids on this trip had never done anything like this before. By the time they were back at the dock, they were already asking about coming back.
That’s what Kona does to people.
Captain Dusty puts effort into making sure everyone on the boat knows what’s happening and why, from the first drop to the last fish. No experience needed and young anglers welcome. Just show up ready to have a good time and build lasting memories.
Prime dates on the Reel Havoc fill up fast, especially in winter and summer when visitors are pouring into the Big Island. Half day, full day, and everything in between. Up to 6 guests per trip, all gear included.
